‘Fracknation’ and Information Part of Montrose Gathering

Photo by Sandra Raub NARO-PA (National Association of Royalty Owners, PA chapter) Vice President Trevor Walczak addresses the group gathered at the Montrose VFW on Jan. 22 to discuss their rights and relationships with gas companies working in the area, as well as to view the premier of the documentary Fracknation: The Truth Runs Deep.

Bitter cold temperatures did not deter approximately 40 people from gathering at the Montrose VFW on the night of Jan. 22 for a party to celebrate the premier of the feature documentary film, Fracknation: The Truth Runs Deep.

The film is the work of investigative journalist Phelim McAleer and follows his trek across the United States and Europe to explore the science behind claims made by environmentalist groups that “fracking” (hydraulic fracturing) done by the natural gas industry is harmful to the environment and the public. PA Senate Bill 298- Clean and Green

The PA House and Senate have passed SB 298 as amended on October 5, 2010 and it awaits the governor's signature. This bill would give peace of mind to landowners facing an immediate demand to pay Clean and Green rollback taxes on all their land as a result of oil and gas development on a few acres. After a gas well is completed rollback will only apply to the affected acreage (that which cannot be returned to agricultural use) after restoration and will not apply to underground facilities. Lanquage is also included regarding alternative energy facilities and temporary site rentals for equipment storage.
